Contraindications for Laser Treatment, IPL,

and Microneedling

It is essential to assess client suitability before proceeding with these treatments. Below are the common contraindications for Laser Treatments, IPL, and Microneedling:

Laser Treatment & IPL Contraindications

  1. Skin Conditions: Active acne (severe cases or cystic acne), Eczema, psoriasis, or dermatitis in the treatment area, Open wounds, cuts, or sores, Severe rosacea or active skin infections (e.g., cold sores, herpes simplex).

  2. Sun Exposure: Recent sunburn or tanning (natural or artificial) within 2 weeks, Photosensitivity due to medication or skincare products.

  3. Medical Conditions: Pregnancy or breastfeeding, Uncontrolled diabetes or autoimmune diseases, Epilepsy (due to light sensitivity), History of keloid scarring or poor wound healing.

  4. Medications: Use of Accutane (isotretinoin) within the last 6–12 months, Photosensitizing medications (e.g., doxycycline, certain antidepressants), Blood-thinning medications (e.g., aspirin, warfarin).

  5. Other Considerations: Recent chemical peels or other laser treatments (within 2–4 weeks), Tattoos in the treatment area (can absorb the laser and cause burns), Permanent makeup in the treatment area.


Microneedling Contraindications

  1. Skin Conditions: Active acne, pustules, or cysts in the treatment area, Active infections (e.g., cold sores or herpes simplex), Eczema, rosacea, or psoriasis flare-ups, Open wounds, cuts, or abrasions.

  2. Medical Conditions: Pregnancy or breastfeeding (as a precaution), Uncontrolled diabetes or immune system disorders, History of keloid or hypertrophic scarring, Blood disorders or clotting issues.

  3. Medications & Treatments: Use of Accutane (isotretinoin) within the last 6–12 months, Recent Botox, fillers, or similar injectables (wait at least 2 weeks), Recent chemical peels, laser treatments, or dermabrasion (within 2–4 weeks).

  4. Other Considerations: Use of topical retinoids or strong exfoliants within 48 hours prior. Active sunburn or recent tanning, Skin cancer or suspicious lesions in the treatment area,
